The younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, Ruth Otabor, was laid to rest today, Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Ogun State.
A video circulating online captured the sombre moment, showing Phyna in attendance alongside fellow BBNaija Level 2 housemates, offering support during the burial.
Ruth’s untimely death followed a tragic accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, where a Dangote Group truck struck her, leading to severe injuries, including the amputation of her leg.
Despite efforts to secure specialised treatment abroad and the Dangote Group’s medical and financial support, Ruth succumbed to her injuries on August 31, 2025.
Phyna shared the heartbreaking news on her social media accounts, posting the family lawyer’s statement, which read: “With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025, at approximately 6:30 AM. The family requests privacy as they mourn.”
A family source disclosed, “When she died this morning, the representatives of Dangote Group were contacted and notified. They later came and took the corpse to the mortuary. We are expecting that they take over the expenses of her burial, since they had stepped in to take over her medical expenses.”
The accident and Ruth’s passing prompted a widespread outpouring of grief, with public calls for justice and road safety improvements. Shortly after Ruth’s death, on September 2, Phyna deactivated her Instagram account.
The Dangote Group took responsibility for her medical care, pledging continued commitment to safety and accountability in their operations.

We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.
Today’s burial marks a poignant closure for Phyna and her family as they mourn the loss of their loved one while renewing calls for enhanced road safety measures in Nigeria.
