Victor Boniface, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker is set to return to Bayer Leverkusen today after medical concerns stalled his potential move to AC Milan.
Boniface, who underwent a series of tests at La Madonnina clinic and Galeazzi Hospital in Milan over the past 48 hours, was sent back to Germany without a green light from the Serie A club.
The delay is believed to stem from the player’s injury history, including two prior cruciate ligament tears during his time at Bodø/Glimt in 2019 and recurring muscle issues, which have prompted Milan to adopt a cautious approach.
Giving an update on Sunday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Boniface’s medical assessments have yet to satisfy Milan’s stringent standards, with further checkpoints pending.
Romano said, “After medical tests at AC Milan, Victor Boniface returns to Germany, as there’s still no green light to his move.
“After 48 hours in Milano, Boniface will be back in Leverkusen today, waiting for AC Milan’s imminent decision on his medical tests/checks made over the weekend.”
The proposed deal is negotiated between Milan and Leverkusen, includes a €5 million loan fee and a €24 million purchase option.
However, the club’s hesitation indicates the critical role of medical evaluations in today’s high-stakes transfer market, where a player’s health can determine the success or failure of a multi-million-euro investment.
