The National Youth Service Corps in Benue State has celebrated four of its former corps members honoured by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by the Information Officer of NYSC in Benue State, Yahuza Adamu, and made available to journalists in Makurdi on Wednesday, the organisation described the honorees as ‘Benue ambassadors ‘
The statement read partly, “Among the honourees were four exceptional ex-Corps members from Benue State who served with distinction and left indelible marks during their service.
“Okoye Prosper (BN/22A/0698) of the Editorial and Publicity CDS Group led impactful media campaigns and civic engagements that gave voice to rural communities. Ogunleye Paulinarh Bolatito (BN/22A/3096) of the Digital Onboarders Literacy CDS Group championed digital awareness projects that brought tech skills to underserved youth.
“Also on the list was Udokop Owoidoho Abasi Nsima (BN/23B/0385), another vibrant voice from the Editorial and Publicity CDS Group, who brought innovation to information dissemination among corps members and host communities.
“Chika Michelle Chioma (BN/23B/1731) of the Digital Onboarders Literacy CDS Group stood out for her creative approach to community-based tech education, bridging knowledge gaps and inspiring young learners.
“The four Benue ambassadors did not just serve; they soared. Their selection for this national honour is a testament to the vibrant spirit of NYSC Benue and a proud moment for the entire state.”
President Tinubu on Tuesday honoured 210 corps members across the country at the Presidential NYSC Honours Award for the 2020 to 2023 service years.
The awardees, drawn from various service years and disciplines, were selected for their exceptional performance in the core areas of the NYSC scheme: Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, and Winding Up and Passing Out.
Among those honoured were ten former corps members who suffered permanent disabilities while serving the nation.
Through the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative, their sacrifices were recognised and their courage celebrated as a powerful reminder that service to Nigeria sometimes demands more than time and talent.
The NYSC Presidential Honours Award came with several life-changing benefits, which included automatic employment in the Federal Civil Service, a fully funded scholarship up to the doctoral level, medals, plaques and other juicy rewards.
“For the recipients, this recognition marks not just the end of their service year but the beginning of an even brighter future.
“As the President shook hands, presented plaques and posed for photographs, one thing was clear. The NYSC continues to produce young leaders ready to build the Nigeria of our dreams. And as for Benue, the accolades are well deserved. From khaki to glory, the journey was worth it,” the statement read in parts.
