The Odengene Foundation has handed over a multimillion naira 58 en-suite room hostel it built to Godfrey Okoye University, a Catholic institution in Enugu State.
The edifice built at the university’s permanent site in Ugwuomu, Emene Nike, was officially handed over to the university on Friday, in a ceremony attended by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Calistus Onaga.
Speaking at the ceremony, Captain Evarest Nnaji, founder of the Odengene Foundation, expressed his motivation for the donation, saying, “I believe that I shouldn’t do it to be known. My joy is to touch lives quietly, to give back, and to support education in whatever way I can.”
Nnaji, explained that he did not build the hostel to be praised, but as a way of touching lives. He urged the students to make good use of the facility by focusing on their studies.
He further announced that his Foundation would continue to offer scholarships to deserving students in need.
“This isn’t a one‑off project. Through the Foundation, we are ready to take up more projects in the school. We are here to help you achieve your goals in life,” he assured.
The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Prof. Christian Anieke, a Catholic priest praised Captain Nnaji for inspiring a new generation of givers through his generosity.
“These students have now realised that it’s possible to do charity. They will always remember that while they were students, a man built a hostel for them,” he said.
Bishop Onaga blessed the building, praying that it would “bring eternal joy to Captain Evarest Odengene in God’s kingdom, and that everyone; students and teachers, who passes through these rooms will be richly blessed.”
He declared that “this is a sacrifice worthy of emulation,” and called on wealthy people in the society to education development.
This donation is expected to ease accommodation challenges and enhance learning conditions for students.
