As Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir from Friday, June 6, to Saturday, June 7, 2025, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered a substantial deployment of personnel from Area Commands, Tactical Formations, and Divisions to ensure robust security at all Muslim prayer grounds and strategic locations across the state.
The Commissioner has also directed all Divisional Police Officers to intensify raids on criminal hideouts and known black spots within their jurisdictions.
This directive was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the police chief assured the public, particularly the Muslim faithful, of adequate security provisions and the smooth flow of traffic throughout the state ahead of the Eid celebrations.
The statement reads: “In recognition of the significance of this sacred occasion, the Command will work in close collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Military, DSS, NSCDC, and Road Safety Corps, to ensure that the activities of hostile elements such as kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists are swiftly curtailed.
“The CP warns mischief-makers to desist, as the Command will take decisive action against anyone found wanting.
“Residents are urged to cooperate fully with security personnel and comply with all laws and safety regulations during the festive period. Vehicular and pedestrian movements around major prayer grounds will be regulated to ensure crowd control and public safety.
“On behalf of the officers and men of the Command, the Commissioner of Police extends his warmest wishes to all Muslim faithful as they observe a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.”
