President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria today after a nearly two-week trip to Europe, confirmed by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return home today,” Onanuga posted on X.
During his time abroad, the Presidency maintained that Tinubu was “fully engaged” with national affairs, staying in constant contact with key officials and issuing directives to security agencies to tackle emerging threats. The trip, initially billed as a working visit to Paris and London, coincided with a surge in violence in Plateau and Benue states, leading to mounting opposition criticism.
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi both urged Tinubu to return and address the worsening security situation, with Obi noting that “over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity” during the president’s absence.
The APC, however, insists that Tinubu’s leadership has not faltered, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing him as needed.
