Varsity Student Electrocuted by Lightning While Charging Phone

On Friday, a 100-level student of Business Administration at the University of Ilesa, Gbolahan Ojolo, died from electrocution caused by a lightning strike while he was charging and playing a game on his mobile phone in his hostel room.

The incident took place during a heavy thunderstorm near PEDI junction.

Registrar Funso Ojo confirmed the tragedy in a statement issued Saturday, highlighting that the university has notified the police, who are investigating the circumstances. The deceased was taken to Wesley Guild Hospital morgue following police clearance.

โ€œThe Management of the University of Ilesa deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of Gbolahan Ojolo,โ€ the statement read. The university is providing support to the family and mourning the loss alongside the entire academic community.
