The Anambra APC governorship race has taken a dramatic turn as Valentine Ozigbo, a former Labour Party chieftain and now APC aspirant, has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Awka.
Ozigbo is contesting the outcome of the April 5, 2025, APC primary, which declared Nicholas Ukachukwu as the winner.
Filed on April 16, 2025, the suit lists the APC, Ukachukwu, and INEC as defendants and seeks to nullify Ukachukwu’s candidacy. Ozigbo’s legal team, led by two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, is relying on party constitutions and delegate lists as evidence.
Ozigbo’s action follows a wave of resignations and discontent within the Anambra APC. He described the primary as a “well-scripted illusion,” citing the use of unfamiliar delegates, lack of proper accreditation, and violence. He further alleged that Ukachukwu did not fulfill the party’s eligibility requirements.
In his words, “A contrived delegate list filled with names unfamiliar to even the most seasoned party leaders was used for the guber primary. Real APC members were locked out while chaos reigned.”
Ozigbo stressed that his fight is for justice and the future of the party, not personal ambition. The court is yet to fix a hearing date.
