The Benue State Police Command has confirmed that 17 people were killed in attacks by suspected herders in Logo and Ukum LGAs between Thursday and Friday.

Police spokesperson Catherine Anene detailed that the attacks began Thursday night when armed militia stormed the Sankera axis, targeting Gbagir and Katsina-Ala. “Five persons were found in the Gbagir area and taken to a hospital where they were confirmed dead. Unfortunately, an unsuspected simultaneous attack was carried out in Logo where twelve persons were killed before the arrival of the police,” she said.

The police, under the directive of CP Steve H. Yabanet, continue to engage the attackers, who have retreated into nearby forests. Anene also urged the public to avoid spreading unconfirmed reports, reaffirming the command’s dedication to combating insecurity.
