According to an internal State Department memo, President Trump may close 10 embassies and 17 consulates, with Africa seeing the sharpest reductions. Embassies in Lesotho, Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Gambia, and South Sudan are among those at risk.

The closures are part of a larger push to reduce US government expenditures and streamline diplomatic operations. The plan also suggests “resizing” missions in Iraq and Somalia and consolidating services in larger embassies.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has yet to approve the proposed changes, and the State Department has not commented on the matter.
