The House of Representatives has constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate the Federal Government’s implementation of the Compressed Natural Gas Policy across the country.
Speaking at the event in Abuja on Friday, the Chairman of the committee, Ahmadu Jaha (APC-Borno) said that the task of the Committee includes assessing the safety, viability and sustainability of the CNG policy in Nigeria.
The Committee, according to the Borno lawmaker, who does everything possible to ensure that CNG centres are fairly distributed across the six geo-political zones across the country.
He pledged the readiness of the committee to engage relevant agencies of government, International Oil Companies and other stakeholders to ensure that the nation’s policy on CNG meets global best practices.
In his words, the committee will also determine the adequacy or otherwise of existing regulatory and legal frameworks governing the implementation of the CNG policy and recommend appropriate legislative measures to the House for further action.
“I therefore urge all of us to look at the mandate of the committee as gleaned from the votes and proceedings to guide our deliberations in order to enhance the work plan already being drafted by the secretariat”, he said.
Recall that the House in plenary on Thursday, May 2025 considered a motion titled “Call to establish more Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Centres across Nigeria, , and called on the Federal Government to establish CNG centres equitably across the country to give Nigerians a sense of belonging.
The 11-man committee was inaugurated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas on Thursday.
