On Monday, Russian forces recommenced air and drone strikes on Ukrainian territory after a surprise 30-hour Easter ceasefire expired. The truce, announced by President Putin for “humanitarian reasons,” ended at midnight, with both sides quickly trading accusations of breaches during its duration.

Ukrainian officials reported that drones and missiles targeted regions such as Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv. Ukrainian air defenses claimed to have intercepted a significant portion of the drones, but several regions still experienced fires and property damage. No casualties were initially reported.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated, “With the expiry of the truce, the Russian Armed Forces continued the special military operation.” Meanwhile, President Zelensky proposed extending the truce and emphasized the need for a longer pause in hostilities.
