During the thanksgiving service for his wife’s 60th birthday on Saturday, Otunba Kunle Akinyele, a Lagos hotelier, suddenly collapsed and died. The service took place at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Iyanu, Egbeda.
Video footage shows Akinyele distressed and gesturing for assistance before slumping. The celebration was to continue at Noble Castle Events Centre, Igando, but was cancelled after the tragedy.
Vendors who arrived early to set up the reception described the shock and disbelief among guests. Social media users mourned the loss and used the incident to raise awareness about men’s health and stress management.
The cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
