On Friday, a 100-level student of Business Administration at the University of Ilesa, Gbolahan Ojolo, died from electrocution caused by a lightning strike while he was charging and playing a game on his mobile phone in his hostel room.
The incident took place during a heavy thunderstorm near PEDI junction.
Registrar Funso Ojo confirmed the tragedy in a statement issued Saturday, highlighting that the university has notified the police, who are investigating the circumstances. The deceased was taken to Wesley Guild Hospital morgue following police clearance.
โThe Management of the University of Ilesa deeply regrets to announce the tragic and untimely death of Gbolahan Ojolo,โ the statement read. The university is providing support to the family and mourning the loss alongside the entire academic community.
