During her visit to Ondo State, Nigerian First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu urged traditional rulers to support the fight against female genital mutilation, Hepatitis B, and other diseases impacting women.
Addressing members of the Ondo State Council of Obas in Akure, she highlighted the importance of community leadership in health advocacy.
“Female genital mutilation is a harmful and outdated tradition built on myths,” she said. “It does not stop promiscuity but destroys the lives of young girls.”
Mrs. Tinubu also flagged off the South-West phase of the Renewed Hope Initiative, pledging to distribute 10,000 professional kits to nurses and midwives, and launched the Flow with Confidence campaign to supply sanitary pads to young girls, particularly in rural areas.
The Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s initiatives, promising the prayers and moral support of the traditional rulers, while praising her steadfast support for President Tinubu’s government.
