The Kano State Government has announced plans to construct 130 new schools in rural areas as part of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme, supported by the World Bank.
The initiative aims to improve access to secondary education for girls aged 10 to 20. “Under Kano AGILE, 10 schools, including the Tudun Maliki Special Education School, were upgraded to provide better facilities and a conducive learning atmosphere,” said Dr. Haruna Ali-Makoda, Commissioner for Education, during a visit to the Emir of Karaye.
He emphasized the importance of traditional institutions as partners, stating, “Your highness, we are here to seek for blessings and cooperation as we cannot achieve success without collaborating with our royal fathers.” Emir Muhammad Maharazu pledged support, describing girls’ education as “the backbone of meaningful societal development” and promising to help sensitize communities about the AGILE programme.
